Abstract | A study to develop a strategy for environmental sustainability with emphasis on rural and agricultural development was conducted at the Pa Wang Phloeng-Muang Khom-Lam NarCl:i National Forest Reserve in Changwat Lop Buri, Thailand. The strategic planning method using the scenario approach was used to formulate the strategy. At the same time, baseline information on biophysical, socio-economic and institutional attributes were gathered through secondary data and actual field data collections. Remote sensing and geo-information system (GIS) technologies were applied to arrive at appropriate land suitability for various agricultural crops including livestock production, ponds and reservoirs, and to determine land use changes for the past ten years. Strategies for·mulated included three broad but interrelated strategies. These were: (a) the management development strategy; (b) the socio-economic development strategy; and (c) the environmental development strategy. It is hoped that integration of these strategies will aid Kasetsart University in attaining ·environmental sustainability and enhance the people's quality of life. Further recommendations were also given which may be adopted by Kasetsart University in the management of the forest reserve. |
