Abstract | We analyze the perfonnance measures(inventory level and back-order position) of a 3-stage kanban controlled serial system, where the raw parts are acquired as a lot, lead time for parts acquisition and stage l's production time are stochastic, and the demand for finished product is stochastic. We consider the problem of finding the number of kanbans circulating in stage 1, the common buffer size and re-order level (common reorder level or different reorder level) so that the average total system cost per unit time, including inventory holding costs for mw parts, in-process products and final product, setup costs for production and acquisition and backorder costs, is minimized. We isolate operations of each stage and approximate them through a Markov model for each isolated stage. The average total system cost per unit time for a given set of decision variables is then estimated. Finally we use genetic algorithms to optimize the system. |
