AbstractOne of the popular second-life battery uses is to apply used batteries from electric vehicle in microgrids because the new battery energy storage system can be costly even if the global price of battery is decreasing constantly. This study will investigate the second-life batteries performances using in Manpura Island microgrid, Bangladesh as the battery energy storage system. The studies are designed and simulated in PSCAD/EMDT software to analyze steady state and transient performances. The results will show that the second-life battery energy storage systems can be used properly as like new battery energy storage systems in off-grid operations. Moreover, the benefit to cost ratio calculation will also be shown. The second life battery is cost effective to use in microgrids for the new microgrid projects that need BESS integration.
