| Abstract | Laboratory scale experiments on Hybrid Anaerobic System (HAS) were conducted to determine the biodegradability of water hyacinth. The HAS consists of two units: the 1iquefaction unit and the biogasification unit. Water hyacinth was used 08 substrate for anaerobic digestion, was mixed with ratio of sludge {S): water hyacinth (WK) = 50 : 50 and 70:30. HAS was operated at the recycling ratios of (R) = 0.5, 1.0 and 2. O corresponding to hydraulic retention time (HRT ) of 20 days, 10 days and 5 days, respectively. The results indicated that HAS was satisfactorily applicable for anaerobic digestion of water hyacinth with R=l . O. In this case, the gas production wan from O. 97 to 0. 118 L/g TCOD added and the Clf4 con tent wan from O. 20- 0. 33 L/g '!'COO added; the TCOD removal efficiency with S: WlI= 50: 50 was 8 8 . 6%, higher than that: of 70:30. |
