Abstract | The application of Upflow Anaerobic Filters to treat the diluted chromium plating waste combined with synthetic waste was studied. The performance of anaerobic filter with different filter media, the different organic loading and different influent heavy metal concentration were also investigated. The effect of filter h eight, accumulation of heavy metal and reaction rate of substrate removal were evaluated. Laterite and foam- cement used for packing material which were selected on the base of local material and economic. It was found that laterite reactor could establish the satisfactory results of COD and heavy metal removal efficiency while foam-cement reactor obtained t h e unsatisfactory result. Component of material and architecture of supporting media are very important functions for unsuccess of foam- cement treatment. Within the height of 135 cm. of both reactor the 90 percent of soluble heavy metal removal could be obtained. In the view of high total heavy metal accumulation in lower part of reactor, it would be resulted in high percentage soluble heavy metal removal in this region also. The reactions of both reactor were found to be of the zero-order and shifting order. So, the kinetics of the reaction were known, these reaction rates would be used to predict t he substrate removal efficiency at any detention times. |
