AbstractThis study ai med to comp re h end inhibition and activity of anaerobic sludge in terms of methane production. The sludge from four different anaerobic processes: full scale Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket ( UA SB) > 1 phase UASB> 2 pha se UASB and up fl ow anaerobic fixed b e d which located in Buri - Ram> Thailand were investigated. Distillery waste wa s fed to the four anaerobic processes. Sl udge and slop were invest igated by anaerobic batch experi ments in As ian Institute of Tec hn ology ( AIT>. It was found that longer accli mation of sludge in the plants gave higher production of methane. In addition > 1: 1 water diluted slop enhanced COD reduction and reduced the range of pH variation. Addition of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus did not significantly affect t h e anaerobic process in 2 phase UASB. High concentration ( 1 2. 5 g/l) of potassium did not affect the methane production> as well.
