AbstractIn today’s modern world, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has played a very important role to use as a technology to evaluate the integrity of constructed structure. The most traditional tool to use in SHM to evaluate the health of structure using accelerometer by identify the dynamic properties of the structure and use the change in dynamic properties to explain the behavior of the structure in terms of global. However, only acceleration record is not enough to evaluate the health of structure in terms of local behavior. Recently, many researchers present the use of strain which is local parameter to help in explanation of the local behavior of the structure. In this thesis, the author presents the application of the Normalized Modal Strain Approach to a 3-story scaled frame structure in order to evaluate the health of the structural frame member after an earthquake event and to explain the lateral load resisting mechanism of the structural frame system using change in Normalized Modal Curvature obtained from Normalized Modal Strain Approach.
