AbstractDeflection is an important parameter for the performance assessment of flexural structures like bridges. It is usually difficult to observe overall vertical displacement for contact measurement because the budget is limited and impractical for highways and bridges over rivers. As a result, non-contact measurement is gaining popularity. The Sampling Moiré method for vision-based, non-contract deformation measurement was recently developed. The method is achieved to measure high accuracy displacement with simple and inexpensive systems by using an ordinary camera. In this study, the Array Moiré Camera Technique (AMT) is proposed to determine deformed profiles based on displacement measurement using Sampling Moiré method. This technique focuses on measuring the change of slope along the span at the testing point by displacement from a tangent to an elastic deflection curve. With the change of slope, the slope function can be solved by curve fitting of slope at point determined from the cumulation of knowing slope at point and different slope from point to point, respectively, so that deflection can be retrieved from the integration of slope function based on beam theory. The experiments were carried out in a laboratory on a steel beam structure under various conditions such as support type, number of measuring points, and location of those points, and the results show that this approach is effective in determining deflection profiles.
