Abstract | Various strategies have been applied to promote employment. Despite these strategies, however, the problem of employment remains and is affecting not only the economy but also the social situation of the country, For example, unemployment world increase the incidence of incidence of poverty and malnutrition. Because of the significance of employment in the socio-Economic situation of a country, this study decided to investigate about a strategy to promote employment. Hence, this case study about backyard tourism was carried out. Backyard tourism is used in the study to refer, to the informal sector in regard to the tourism industry. This study used the descriptive method of research, in particular, the field survey, the case study method, and library/documentation research. The chosen study area was Puerto Galera. The filed survey revealed that backyard tourism has generated employment at a significant number. It has given jobs particularly to females, quite similar to the findings of previous studies about the informal sector. In addition, the number of jobs created per household is high when compared to the average household size of the study are. This finding also confirms with the findings of previous studies and the employment opportunities which can be offered by tourism industry. However, vis-a vis the benefits of employment generation, come the lowering of the moral values are the ill-effects cited by the respondents. |
