AbstractAlthough the Village Fisheries Project has been seriously implemented in Thailand for more eight years, but the results of the project implementation seems not to be satisfactory as was hope. The problems that the Department of Fisheries (DOF) faced at the start of the project implementation still remain at present even though the DOF attempted to improve the implementation and solve the problems which constrained the successful progress of the project in order to achieve a highest level of success , but the results of the implementation improvement and the solution to problems appears to be unsuccessful as it should be. According to the findings of the study, it was found that the most serious problem which made the project end in failure was that the villagers did not see the importance of the project and did not identify it as one of their important development needs. This led them to neglect participating in the activities related to the project, especially in the activity of village fishpond. Furthermore, the inadequate number of fisheries extension workers was one of the serious problems as well. Tn order to help the Department of Fisheries meet the major objective of the project that is to raise a level of protein per capita from fish consumption among the rural poor recommendations has been proposed. These include the analysis of problems and impact, and the strategies to carry out the project. Moreover, the orientation of further study is also recommended in this research.
