Abstract | In recent years, the question of promoting small-scale industries in rural areas has been paid more attention by the Vietnamese government . This was proved by a number of renovated policies, including the greater priority accorded to this sector with respect to the allocation of investment and the provision of concessions and incentives as well as the encouragement of the private sector to stimulate the production of consumer goods and export goods . However , achievements in the promotion and development of small-scale industries varied from place to place in the country. This study mainly refered to the promotion of small-scale industries in Tu Loc District, Hai Hung province, which served as a micro study. Focuses of the study were given to the assessment of the contributions of small-scale industries to the socioeconomic development of the d i strict, the local conditions for the development of this sector in terms of the local potential resources, the physical infrastructure and the institutional framework. addition, problems inhibiting small-scale industrial development were also analyzed by the study. The major findings and conclusions of the study were that the study area of Tu Loc District owed rather favorable conditions for further development of small-scale industries despite various problems existing, and, in fact, this sector already had, though not much, significant contributions to the development of the district economy and the improvement of the local people's living conditions. Finally, the study presented some recommendations for development planning and further research which were found necessary to ensure a firm development of small-scale industries in the study area. |
