AbstractRecently, t he r e h as been considerable interest in studying the u se of SFRC (steel fiber reinforced concrete ) in structural members such as beams. What is lacking , however , is the clear understanding of the behaviour in shear of SFRC beams. A major difficulty in solving t he problem of s h ear is the large amount of parameters involved. Experiments were carried out to determine the behaviour of SFRC beams , with particular reference to failure in shear. The parameters t h at were varied in the bea6 tests include the s hear span to effective depth ratio (a/d) of the beam, longitudinal reinforcement ratio ( p), and fiber content by volume (Vr) . Several control specimens to study the material properties of SFRC we re a l so test ed. Investigations of important parameters which affect the shear strength of the be am are describe d . The ultimate shear strength of a SFRC beam was found to depend generally on the following parameters: shear span to depth ratio (a/d), tensile post-cracking stress (Fct), longitudinal reinforcement ratio
