AbstractA rational study on axisymmetric far fie lds of multilayered saturated elastic spaces is done in t his study. The saturated elastic media is governed by the Biot's theory. Based on three simple cases, v iz, a half space under vertical point load, a homogeneous full space under a vertical point load and a point sink, and two homogeneous half spaces perfectly bonded togeth er with a vertical point load at the interface, far field displacements and fluid pore pressure are presented. These far field functions are validated by employing t hem in existing infinite elements of few example of homogeneous and layered half spaces. Results in good agreement with existing analytical solutions show the overall superiority of these shape functions.
