Abstract | This study aims to investigate the use of ferrocement in the rehabilitation of structural beam elements and to assess the effect of parameters such as amount of wire-mesh and geometrical configuration of the ferrocement encasing, at different degrees of distress, on the behavior of the beams after rehabilitation. An experimental program was carried out by taking up two degrees of distress (70% and 90% of the ultimate load), two different amounts of wire-mesh (4 layers and 8 layers) and two geometrical configurations (at bottom only and on three sides) of the ferrocement encasing. Used on The results obtained in the study, it is found that the proposed method of rehabilitation of beams using ferrocement is satisfactory and can be adopted practically. The test results show that the ferrocement encasing on three sides of the beam is more effective than the one at bottom only even for a lesser amount of wire-mesh. However the performance of the ferrocement encasing at bottom only can be improved by increasing the amount of wire-mesh . The amount of wire-mesh has less significance for crack width and does not always affect the appearance of the first crack. |
