AbstractA study on energy uses in the Petroleum authority of Thailand (PTT ) Office Building was conducted. Energy Audit of various system such as electrical system, air conditioning system were carried out. In 1989 the total energy consumption of the Office Building was about 60240 00 kWH and costed 11.98 million baht. A detail electrical measurement of different feeders were made. The break down of electrical energy usage in various energy systems are presented. The percentage of electrical energy contributed by Air conditioning system, Lighting , Lifts , Miscellaneous were 61.39% , 23.34%, 6.36% and 8.92% respectively . The electrical energy usage indices and cost effectiveness are presented to compare the effectiveness of the energy usage. The average monthly electrical indices are 16.90 kWH/m2 and 33 . 60 bah t /m 2 respectively. The power indices for Air conditioning system and Lighting are 39.84 W/m 2 and 12.55 W/m2 respectively . The opportunities for energy conservation in power and thermal energy systems are identified , analyzed and recommended. The monetary saving d u e to reduction of peak demand is 233580 baht per year . The energy saving from reduction of demand is 134550 baht per year. From the redistribution of Transformer the saving will be 38261 baht per year. From energy conservation in lighting system the saving is 622077 bah t per year. A detailed simulation work of building energy system were carried out. From the simulation work the result shows that the external heat gain is the major source of cooling load which represents 65 . 1% , I n filtration 15.3% , Equipment 5.4%, people 7 . 3% and Lighting 6 . 9% respectively. To reduce the cooling load using protective polyester films in the window will save 438126 baht per year . Also increasing the thermostat set point to 75°F will save 536406 baht per year.
