AbstractThe limestone forms the 95 % and granite, basalt and gravel form the rest 5 % of total aggregate production of Thailand. The aggregates are mainly produced from Permian and occasionally from limestone of other ages. These aggregates are strong, hard and durable. The percent wear of investigated aggregates from all the localities is below 40 %. The aggregate impact values are between 11 and 15 . None of the aggregates suffered 12% loss in sodium sulfate soundness test and amount of water absorption is less than 2 % • Some of the fractions are flaky and elongated. Petrographically the limestones are intrasparite to micritic in nature with certain variation in alteration products and microfractures . The dominant mineral in limestone of all the four localities is calcite with dolomite and quartz as associate mineral in varying amounts. The granite is medium to coarse grained with alkali feldspar, microcline and biotite mica. The granite will have better skid resistant property than the limestone. Looking at the property ranges except the weathered granite, all the limestone and granite aggregates are high quality aggregates and are suitable for highways following the order of merit as Lopburi, Nurn Ka Prok, Ronphibun, Surathani and Saraburi.
