AbstractA rotor-float attachment to the Philippine-made power tiller was d eveloped for use in soft soil r ice land cultivation. It features the puddling ability of the turtle tiller a nd the concept of flotation at the same time maintains the v ersatility a nd transportability of the power tiller. On wet-plowed soil conditions using a 7 hp (5.2 kW) diesel en gine during the first pass, it h ad a field capacity of 0.27 ha/hr, fuel consumption of 1.84 L/ hr a nd a field efficiency of 86%. Its performance had even improved during the second pass giving 0.35 h a / hr field capacity, 1.59 L/hr fuel con s umption a nd 100% field efficiency. During the field operations, soil blocking did not occur and minimal amounts of weeds accumulated between the rotors and the transmission. The soil's tilth was acceptable. Being heavy, however, steering became a problem.
