Abstract | Single row manually operated electrostatic planter for small seeds was designed, fabricated and developed. Electrostatic force is used for metering the small seeds. Pickup points , made of ebonite are fixed on a rotating wheel. The rotating wheel gets power from a driving wheel through chain - sprocket transmission. Hill to hill spacing can be varied by varying the number of pickup points on the rotating wheel . The pickup points rub against a woolen piece of cloth and get a small amount of electrostatic charge. This charge picks up 1-4 seeds from a seed hopper and seeds are released into the delivery funnel by a scraper and pass through the seed tube into the furrow. The furrow is covered and pressed by the press wheel behind the metering device . This planter was tested in the laboratory as well as in the field to evaluate performance and accuracy. Seed rate is very low -jute 0 . 36 kg I ha, brinjal 0.88 kg I ha and chilli 0 .50 kg I ha (at hill spacing of 30 cm.). Field capacity is 0.077 ha/hr, with average velocity 0.5 m I s and field efficiency 89.80 percent . Average total power requirement is about 30 W, consisting of 23 W rolling resistance of driving wheel and press-wheel, and 7 W to pull the shoe type furrow opener. Average slip is about 11 percent . Total price of this planter is about Raht. 3300, with Baht. 2300 for materials and Baht 1000 for fabrication. Total cost to plant jute seeds by this planter is about Baht 316.00 per hectare including cost of seeds. |
