Abstract | Modifications were incorporated on the 12-row Chinese rice transplanter to solve the operational and the mechanical problems. The picking mechanism of the 12 row Chinese rice transplanter was modified to have cleaning mechanism. The weight of the machine was reduced by removing the two loaders and the seedlings were pushed by a mechanism. Modification were also carried out to control the number of seedlings and to avoid the soil movement around the float. The machine was tested in standard soil condition ( 4-8 puddling, one rotavation and levelling, and 7-10 days of settlement period before transplanting) with seedlings aged 23 to 34 days old at 0-6 cm depth of water. The field capacity and the field efficiency of the transplanter in a field size of24m x 46m are 0.085 ha/hr and 39%, respectively. The machine had shown better performance with seedlings aged 23 to 27 days old, with the average performance of 19% missing hills, 33% non -productive hills and 54% of the hill had 1-4 seedlings. The total number of seedlings per sq. m was 82, against an optimum range of 72 to 108 seedlings per sq. m. The clogging of soil in the fork and the float needs to be studied and modified to improve the performance. |
