AbstractLoad Management is a new concept to the old problems being faced by the industry nowadays. The study comprises of a methodological solution of such problems in a pulp and paper factory. This idea can be applied to any other type of factory. Load management is a means of conserving power, which is possible through various control elements, such as load shedding and interlocked operation of grouped motors. The .load shedding method is easiest but unfavorable as it effects the production also. Interlocked operation helps in reducing the peak demand in any electrical premises and is the most suitable method. This can be implemented through new innovations of Programmable Logic Controllers. The application of such devices for load management purpose has not been reported yet in industry. The study explains the methodology of implementing such concepts and provides a strategy for the factory, which results in reduction of demand/ power from present value of 10400 Kw for a particular day to 9300 Kw for any day, whereas the total supply capacity of the factory is 12000 Kw. If this power .is utilized with planning then there is still a provision of 2700 Kw load, which can be added to the factory during new extensions. The investments in this regard are very minor and for a multi million installation this amount is very meagre . Therefore it makes the implementation of Load Management tools (Programmable Logic Controllers) more favorable, the versatility of these tools can help the factory to reap more benefits.
