Abstract | This study is a review of the performance of the Community Health through Integrated Local Development Project (CHILDP) in the course of its implementation in the province of Davao Norte particularly in two barangays of the municipality of Asuncion, the study area. Since the project called for collaborative efforts from the government agencies s u ch as the NEDA, DOH, the local governments, the CHILD Project team from t h e Institute of Primary Health care and from the community itself, the CHILDP provided for a mech anism that called for mobilizing t h e people to contribute to the solution of t h eir own h ealth problems. With the involvement of the community , particularly the community women in health projects and activities through the rendering of voluntary health services , the health situation of the community improved considerably. As more and more households were provided access to safe drinking water, sanitary waste disposal, regular child immunization and basic care , prenatal care and immunization, as well as the regular house-to-house survey from and interaction with the health volunteers, there is a noticeable improvement in the overall health picture of the CHILD Project areas particularly those covered in the study . Throughout the implementation of the CHILD Project, means to improve the delivery of primary health care services to the grassroots in underserved communities in the rural areas of Davao province have been tried and desired results have been satisfactorily achieved. |
