Abstract | This study talks about the experiences of trans gender people with the delivery of healthcare services and the way these experiences are influencing their healthcare needs. First, there is no acceptance for the trans gender population in Bangladesh. As a result, they are being ignored in the entire right sector. Though government has given citizenship for the hijra people, but unfortunately failed to address diversity among the transgender populations as there are trans-men and trans-women people. Based on these transgender people's gender identity and their demographic differences of age, income, education, family support, they are having different experiences with healthcare services. Mostly, hijra respondents are discriminated compared to trans-men and trans-women because of their identifiable outlook. Trans-women are having more discrimination compared to trans-men because of historical misogyny against women. Trans-men who come out in public, have more ability to cope up with negative experiences compared to the younger trans-men who stay with family. Irrespective of any gender identity, transgender people with comparatively less income and younger are more likely to complain about unmet need and negative experiences. Therefore, there are stigma and discrimination against the trans gender people, which is systematically infused in our healthcare settings. Very few hijra and trans-women who are associated with specialized organization working for trans gender health is experiencing positive vibes and their healthcare needs are being met. This is different for the trans-men respondents. |
