Abstract | As it is widely known, base isolation enables the reduction in earthquake forces by lengthening the period of vibration of the structure. Therefore, the significant benefits obtained from isolation are in structures for which the fundamental period of vibration without base isolation is short. In this study found that even in the tall building, the base isolation is performing well under DBE level and effectively able to reduce the demand of the superstructure. The reduction happened because of the lower spectral acceleration caused by the bearings at BI structure that able to shift the period to be longer than the FB structure one. Although the acceleration is increased, the seismic responses of the higher mode of BI structure is reduced because of the lower participation factor at higher mode, preventing the earthquake load induce to the structure. |
