Abstract | As part of the urban ecosystem, urban green spaces play an important role in sustainable urban development due to their multiple ecosystem services and functions. Yangon city is facing new urbanization and accelerated developments as the nation moves toward the Democracy. There are gaps and mismatches between urban green space management oflocal government and people's expectation. Some parks in the Yangon city are lack of management and maintenance that cause less number of users. Therefore, this research aim to study the urban green space management and benefits for enhancing the quality of urban green space in Yangon city. The research identifies the existing function ofKandawgyi parks which combined public parks and private park and find out the problems and challenges for management of urban green space by analyzing the DPSIR framework. In addition, it determines the stakeholder participation in urban green space management to explore their role, interest and problems for enhancement management of urban green space. And the potential benefits analysis is one of the supporting factors to determine the strategies for the management of urban green space. As a key finding of this research, private sector can support to the local government for enhancing quality of UGS. The proposed EMMs of policy measures, regulation measures, economic measures and suasive measures are filling the gaps between local government, local citizens and non-government organizations and stakeholder participation in the EMMs is the major consideration for enhanced UGS management. It can change the view of administration to pay more attention to enhance quality ofUGS in Yangon city. The analysis and results show that this research is possible for local government to apply for existing condition of UGS and it can also apply to same conditions ofUGS in other developing cities. |
