AbstractThe study presents the development and implementation of production planning and sc h eduling models for a steel manufacturing company. The general objective of the study i s to improve the existing planning and sc h eduling procedure. The solution procedure for this problem are decomposed into 2 parts. Firstly, Goal programming models are formulated for the product mix p] anning for both single period and multi- period planning situation. Linear Programming compu ter packages were used in the computation utilizing both mainframe and personal compu ter. Secondly, two altern atives to determine the production sequence for a sequence dependent setup problem using Zero- One Integer programn1ing Solution and Branc h and Bound Solution are presented. The results obtained from the proposed solution are compared with the existing intuitive way of planning and scheduling. Emphasis is also made on how the models can be practically implemented.
