| Abstract | More and more companies are trying to adopt Just-in-time manufacturing philosophy. It has various characteristics which needs to be inc'orporated by the company striving towards a higher level of TIT. The level of TIT can qe quantified in terms of few ratios. The adoption of TIT philosophy requires simultaneous improvement of these ratios. In order to improve upon these ratios, the related decisions needs to be optimized. In this thesis, four decision areas related to vendors, namely, i) Vendor Evaluation ii) Organizing Logistics for Vendors iii) Design of Production System for Vendor iv) Improving Reliability of Vendor have been modelled and analyzed. The analysis has been done assuming Just-in-time enviroqment to be prevailing. Various available techniques such as Analytic Hierarchy Process, Vehicle Routing Methodology, System Dynamics etc. have been used for the purpose. These models and methodologies have been validated by the data obtained from an automobile manufacturing company. The results obtained can be easily implemented by the managers at decision making level. The major outcome of this work is that the four major vendor related decisions have been optimized which provides a path for solving other vendor related problems in Just-in-time environment in a similar manner. The existing techniques can be successfully used to solve the problems. |
