AbstractA heuristic methodology for solving the vehicle routing problem with side constraint is proposed and applied to t h e operations of mil d and ice-cream delivery trucks at Chieng-mai depot as a case study. The upcountry area under responsibility of Chieng- mai depot is clustered into four subarea for the operation of four trucks. The current routing plan of each truck is considered independently in which the side constraint is the short lifetime of milk products. The plants also projected to the year 1995 based on the average demand growth rat e by 12 . 59.s annually . The functional design of a n e w depot f or milk and ice- cream products to support the demand in 1995 is introduce d, consisting of the building layout with required storage facilities. The preliminary study on distribution system of electric product company is presented as another case study. '11 he problems of the distribution system from the point of view of retail shops and central warehouse are discussed. Important suggestions on the improvement of the system are identified.
