AbstractThis study is an attempt to introduce the materials handling concept to construction industry. A system approach was used to collect data from ten high rise building projects around t he central area of Bangkok dividing into three levels. Three different methods of analysis were done separately to define problem areas of each level . Results of the analysis showed that most of the projects in the region lagged behind their schedule du e to material shortages, man-power shortages and mismanagements. Efficiencies of the workmanship in various activities of various projects were low. Foundation works were more sensitive than superstructure works from materials handling point of view. Finally, guide lines of material s handling policy have been proposed to apply in the Bangkok area.
