AbstractWaterlogging is one of the main problems besetting Agriculture in Palclstan. In this study a part of Rechna Doab area, Punjab, Pakistan, suffering from waterlogging problem has been selected. Where a subsurface drainage system has already existed there and is under operation. A simulation model was developed to analyze the response of the ground water to various recharge and discharge parameters. Daily data of twenty nine months was used for identification of the model parameters and for verification of the model applicability by making coincidence between computed and observed water table depth. Model simulation was done to find the required drainage rate as a main parameter of the subsurface drainage system using twenty years daily rainfall, irrigation and evapotranspiration data. The problems of the present drainage system installed in the area were analyzed and the direction of improvement of the present system was pointed out. Economical drain depths and spacings to control the water table for the improvement of waterlogging conditions were analyzed.
