AbstractHanoi water supply system has been installed and is now under rehabilitation. The operating conditions of the system indicate that the system is able to meet with the existing requirements. However, it has many drawbacks, including those related to the hydraulic and economic aspects. A study of the existing network is therefore attempted to introduce some remedial measures and alternatives of operations of in order to utilize the system more efficiently. By the existing network analysis, it is found that the head loss and velocity in some pipelines are a bit higher than recommended. As a result, the service head at the consumer node is very low and much smaller than the minimum allowable pressure head at that node. By changing the diameter of the pipelines, the hydraulic conditions of the existing network can be improved and the loss in the pipes is reduced to acceptable value. Some alternatives of valve and pump operation, which increase the hydraulic efficiency of the network are suggested.
