Abstract | A finite integral method of numerical analysis is described for the elastic lateral buckling of beams subject to combined bending and axial force. By introducing a moment modification factor, the solution then can be expressed in a slightly modified form similar to the closed form solution. Based on the numerical results, a formula for the values of the moment modification factor , which are functions of both the end moments ratio and the axial force is proposed. The proposed formula is compared with the reduction factor formula used in the present beam-columns design and the results are also discussed. |
