AbstractThis thesis deals with soils and foundations of Lahore . The geotechnical data collected through interviews with local engineers, soil investigation reports and published literature has been compiled , analyzed and presented in an integrated and consolidated form. The geology of the area, foundation conditions and engineering characteristics of sub soils related to foundation design and analysis has been described. The main bearing soil deposit consists of Silty Sand / Fine Sand for which author performed some directs hear and triaxial tests, the results of which are also included . Foundation problems o f the Walled City which are causing distress to the old buildings of historical and cultural values have also been discussed , so that proper remedial measures ca n be adopted . Review of State of the art of soil exploration and foundation design in Lahore has also been presented .
