AbstractA number of thematic maps for the Bangkok area are drawn to delineate the surficial and subsurface conditions. Well data, hydrological data and bore hole data are collected for the purpose. The maps generated are geomorphological map, ground elevation map, subsurface soil maps, surface water map, piezometric level maps, construction material resource map and land subsidence map. Flandriantidal flat , meander belt and coastal swamp are the landform of the study area. Subsoil conditions, such as, thickness, depth and soil properties, are described . The area is underlined by alternating clay and sand layers. The topmost soft clay layer covers the area. Groundwater pumping further aggravates t h e situation of land subsidence. Low drainage capacity of the canals and the Chao Phraya River, heavy rainfall and the inflow from adjacent area cause serious flooding. The area is in the seismic free zone. Six waste disposal sites are constructed to cope with the generated waste. Land use development is proposed under the consideration of the geotechnical hazards of the area.
