Abstract | Land use and Transportation Interaction has become one among the prominent topics for discussion due to the urban sprawl and it's impacts in the major cities of the world . Although all the forces involved in the interaction could not be analysed, an attempt was made to understand the complex process of the interaction in the Bangkok metropolitan area. In the first section , a descriptive approach was adopted . The computer program developed, gave the l a nd use distributions in the years 1958 and 1982 as well as changes between the two years. Thus the representative land use patterns were established in the study area . From the population density - centrality model , the centralities Ca measure of relative accessibility> were found out. An intuitional understanding of the land use transportation interact ion showed that land price and the centralities were responsible for the land use changes. In the second section, to confirm the results obtained from the descriptive analysis, a statistical technique for multivariate data known as discriminant analysis was performed , using the change in land price and change in the centralities as the variables. It was found that centralities contributed the most , in discriminating between the major and minor land use change groups, establishing the fact that Transportation played a predominant role in the process of land use growth. |
