AbstractThis study aims to review the NRD-2C i ndicators used as a tool for decision making in rural development planning i n Thai l and in order to identify target ar eas and target groups. We assess how far these indicators r eflect the poverty problem of rural development as perceived by peop le as well as r eviewing other data sources and to compare the designation of poverty problem, which emerge from the use of t he NRD-2C data base. We build a profile of poverty for our study area as a guideline to reflect more accurate ly the nature and intensity of rural development poverty problems in line with people's perception. Finally an attempt is make to suggest how t he existing indicators might be used or changed to offer a more sophisticated, but nevertheless, easily used basis for allocation of resources different areas and communities.
