AbstractThis work proposed an algorithm to solve the Multi- stage Alternatives Machine Scheduling Problem under the Group Technology Environment. The algorithm was Branch and Bound by concept, and considered only to obtain an optimal solution. Review chapters were prepared in the first part to allow readers to get familiarized with the new philosophy on Group Technology. Method of solution involved the scheduling of groups of jobs to alternative machines in each stage of the system. Optima l sequences of groups and j o bs were aimed at by t h e algorithm. Two sectional sample computations were shown in the latter part of the work in order to discuss the strong and weak points of the algorithm. It was anticipated that, by studying the paper presented in this manner , the reader would better understand the complex field of general jobs hop under Group Technology philosophy and would, as a result , be able to u se the similar technique in his or her environment .
