Abstract | Wire rope production was multi-stages production which work in process stored on bobbins. Production route could be changed according to machines condition. In this study, company facing many problems from improper scheduling which led to bobbin shortage and machines waiting time problem. Thus, company could ut111ze only 20-30% of it's capacity only. The planning and scheduling problem couldn't be solved by the existing methodology. Therefore, the author developed new methodology for solving the problem. The problem was solved by two level hierarchical approach. In level 1. a heuristic procedure for loading and scheduling was developed. The criteria for the procedure were given on profit and alternate machines capacity. In level 2, the policy for scheduling was developed to schedule job from level one. There are two policy for scheduling. First, policy to schedule stranding machines with is bottleneck. Priority was given to job with the longest expected processing time(stranding processing time + expected waiting time). Second, policy for scheduling closing machines in order to reduce work in process. In this policy, priority was given to work in process from operation with give the highest bobbin free rate {work in process (in term of number of bobbins)/(set up + processing time.)I. Two months orders were experimented. Results were discussed together with some recommendation for further study. |
