AbstractProduction planning in a garment factory requires that consideration be given not only to the goals of the management but to those of the customers and workers as well. These multiple goals, however, tend to be conflicting in nature, hence a goal programming approach to production planning is presented. A multiple goal model structure was formulated based on the objectives of the company. The objectives include the minimization of lateness, t he maximization of revenue, the minimization of production cost, and the minimization of overtime, arranged according to the order of preference of the management. The model was applied using actual data obtained from the subject company and was run using the Sequential Linear Goal Programming (SLGP ) algorithm implemented with the use of the MPSX package in the IBM computer. Sensitivity analysis was performed to give insights to t h e decision-makers concerning trade-offs that exist among the conflicting goals. Results obtained were shown in tables and suggestions on implementation for short-term and long-term planning were presented. It was concluded that goal programming is a valuable analytic tool to aid decision-makers in the production planning process.
