Abstract | In this study a goal programming model has been developed for a ship repair company of Bangladesh t o find the optimum production plan as a means to know what jobs to be done and how much to be done. Thro ugh implementing this production plan management could achieve as close as possible to the desired level of the goals. The firm under study is an autonomous public limited company which has both the economic and non-economic goals, sometimes with differing priori ties. In developing the goal programming model three major assumptions were made , namely: (i) all mathematical relationships are linear, ( ii ) the parameters are deterministic, and (iii ) demand is more than capacity. Al together 5 goals were considered , out of which on e major economic goal is to earn certain revenue as fixed by the head office and one major social goal is to earn/save foreign currencies. Limit a t ion in overtime and minimization of under utilization of the capacities are the goals for the own benefit of the company . Keeping the over time with in certain limit is for the smooth operation of t h e company. These goals set to satisfy the existing planning process of the company a nd to make the mode l realistic and applicable. Sensitivity to the changes in the goal priority structure and to the change in the model parameters has been conducted . |
