AbstractThe Philippine sugar industry has been bogged down by problems resulting from both domestic and international developments so that it is faced with declining industry indexes. This study models the industry using the system dynamics methodology of feedback systems in an attempt to explain these influences. The study reveals strong feedback loops affecting the availability of funds that finance the industry. This explains the falling production and inventory levels. The strong influence of the feedback loop lies in the pricing system that does not compensate the costs incurred by the agricultural sector.
