AbstractThe purpose of this study was to develop a computer simulation model to study the performance during the peak periods of a bus route operated by Bangkok Mass Transit Authority. The model was developed using the data available on the airconditioned bus route no.2 in Bangkok to simulate the performance during the morning peak period from 5:45 - 11:00. The computer program was coded in Turbo Pascal Language and run on the NEC PC or compatible. The simulation program generates tables with the average and the standard deviation of the arrival time at each stage for the inbound and outbound trip. In order to assess the potential value of bus control a computer simulation of a high frequency urban bus service (Airconditioned Bus Route No.2) has been us e d to estimate the likely effects of applying a number of control strategies formulated for use when the arrival time of buses at each stage on the route were known. Three Strategies were considered: all strategies regularised bus departures from termini by making adjustments to bus layover periods. The average c.p.u. time taken for a simulation run was 123 minutes. A new time table was prepared to improve the performance of bus route. The model can be used to simulate any bus route and the impacts Transportation System Management strategies.
