Abstract | Will the next year's economy outperform this year's? When will the economy revive from a recession? How long will a boom economy last? These are questions usually asked by businessmen and policymakers. They are interested in the future economic condition because they want to take an appropriate action or policy at the right time. This study concentrates on a search for cyclical trends in the economy of Thailand, through time series analysis in frequency domain, called "spectral analysis". The main idea of this technique is to decompose a time series into several cyclical components and then to examine their percentage portions in the total variances. The results obtained from the technique can be used as a preliminary knowledge in constructing a dynamic model of business cycles in the economy of Thailand. |
