| Abstract | A microcomputer- based decision support system is developed in this study to help the manager of a medium- scale firm to make decisions when he faces fast changing conditions and to strengthen his abilities to solve production management problems. The system, designed for production management , includes three basic units: the database as an information resource, the mode l base as a solution technique and the interactive dialogue as a decision making procedure. Th e database subsystem integrates the advantages of dat abase , in order to convert manual operations to computerized operations and provide up- to- date information. The model base subsystem is designed to minimize the inventory cost when considering bicriteria objectives. A heuristic procedure is also presented to solve t h e large scale problems in a real production environment. The links between man- machine interactive dialogues are designed for ' communication' with the system in an easy learning a nd approachable manner . The whole DSS is built on the practical aspects of a medium- scale export commodity producer. |
