Abstract | This study introduces the possibility of using a refrigerant- filled collect or for the recovery of solvents from vegetable oils . Due to the high boiling points of classical solvents , a high operating temperature is required. Thus , the thermodynamic properties of freon which is the chosen heat transfer fluid was investigated at different temperature conditions . A selection was done on the appropriate collector configuration which satisfies the requirement o f the application being considered in this study. The importance and methods of calculating the heat transfer coefficient of a two-phase flow were also analyzed since this affects the design of the heat transfer equipment. A purely hypothetical system was established for the vaporization of a pure solvent, hexane . The heat transfer medium for the solar collector was R - 11 3 after conducting the investigation on its thermodynamic properties . A computer model written in Turbo Pascal was for mulated by The basic energy balances to simulate the performance of the system. A non - linear model of the over-all heat loss coefficient adapted from CSIRO (1976) was also incorporated in the computer model. Th e results showed that the production of vapor was affected by the amount of solar irradiation, the heat transfer effectiveness , the losses to the surrounding , and the load in the boiler where the vaporization of the solvent takes place . |
