AbstractA study on the commercial production of briquettes and biocoal in Thailand was carried out. The technologies of briquette and biocoal production in Thailand are described. A survey of briquette and biocoal production and marketing was conducted; data on producers, distributors and consumers are presented and discussed. Briquettes are used mainly as cooking fuel in refugee camps, and a small proportion is also used for cremations in a few temples. The main target for biocoal producers is the export market; only the surplus after export, and biocoal below export quality are sold on domestic markets. Only three provinces in Thailand have been marketing biocoal, which is sold mainly in grocery stores. Most biocoal consumers are food vendors and the attribute of biocoal that they like most is its non - sparking characteristic. The most important reasons for the present acceptability of biocoal in Thailand are the convenience of using and price.
