AbstractSongkhla Lake which comprises three interconnected lagoons - Thale Noi, Thale Luang and Thale Sap - with 1040 km was selected, and certain hydrobiological parameters were measured in ten sample points. The SPOT image of May 1986 was used to detected the hydrobiological parameters. The SPOT image was used in two ways classification to produce turbidity map C supervised and density slicing method ) and to find the turbidity values as a function of three spectral bands which operates in multispectral mode. The reflectance values were extracted by reading the reflectances in the three bands for small polygonal areas around the sampling points. The mean values of these training fields were considered as the characteristic reflectances at the sampling points. Thematic maps show the relative quantitative distribution of water quality variables in the target area. One interesting area which has very high reflectance values were determined by thematic maps but could not be checked with the actual surface data due to the lack of the sampling stations there. However, the classified image from SPOT data showed homogeneity in the most of the lagoon. We obtained that the hydrobiological parameters such as turbidity, salinity, pH, nitrate nitrogen, phosphate, DO could be correlated with SPOT data. The statistical models obtained by Stepwise linear regression showed high coefficient of determination (R).
