AbstractIn this study a computer programme was developed to the integral plant design in a techno-economic manner with respect to operating parameters of each unit operations. This study consisted of three main parts: 1) Technical evaluation of individual unit operation was made by using the following models to predict the performance of flocculation, sedimentation and filtration, respectively . The design parameters used also are mentioned with the model. - Boadway's Flocculation Model (Flocculation Time) - Camp's Approach to Class-1 Settling Model (Overflow-Rate) - O'Melia - Ali's Filtration Model (Filtration Velocity) 2) The formulation of cost functions for capital and operational and maintenance costs for each unit operations in water treatment plant using the data available in Thailand. 3) The simulation of the technical performance and cost of the whole water treatment plant for three configurations (i. e Contact Filtration, Direct Filtration and Conventional Treatment ) was made to select the optimum design parameters which satisfy the effluent standard at minimum total investment costs. *Here conventional water treatment refers to the plants consisting of unit operations flocculation, sedimentation and filtration in the given order.
