AbstractWaterlogging is only one of the many problems besetting Agriculture in the Indus Basin in Pakistan. In this thesis typical area suffering from Waterlogging problem has been selected in the Mona project area in Pakistan. The response of the ground water table to various recharge and discharge parameters has been analysed first. The stepwise multiple linear regression technique with the backward elimination procedure has been used to determine the relation of the weekly water table fluctuation with the rainfall, evapotranspiration , tubewell and canal supplies . Weekly data of past ten years were used in the regression. Two regression models were developed for the Rabi and Kharif seasons separately. A simulation model was developed and applied to determine the irrigation scheduling in order t o keep the water table below a specified level. The regression models were used in the simulation to predict the weekly water table levels under effective rainfall, prescribed canal and tubewell supplies and selected cropping pattern. Thus irrigation management alternatives were found to minimize waterlogging .
