AbstractEffective disaster management requires a combination of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practical skills. Therefore, Disaster Management professionals must familiarize themselves with the various categories and underlying causes of Disasters, while also cultivating a proactive mindset toward Disaster Preparedness and Response. The study titled " Students' Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices towards Disasters Management in Kabul Public University; An Assessment" aims to assess the Disaster Management Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of students at Kabul Public University. The study utilized a mixed-method approach, including quantitative and qualitative methods. A questionnaire was developed to collect data from students, and the content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts from various universities. The reliability of the questionnaire was also tested, and 658 respondents were needed to achieve a 99% confidence level and a 1% error margin. In addition, interviews were conducted with administrative staff to gather their perspectives on disaster management at Public universities in Kabul. The study found that students at Kabul Public University had a general understanding of Disaster Management at 60.2%, Positive attitudes at 74.1%, and a Practice rate of 58.2%. Gender was found to be a significant factor, while marital status had no noticeable effect on Knowledge, Attitudes, and practices. Age was not a significant factor either. Fourth-year students exhibited superior Disaster Management Practices, while Kabul Educational University displayed better attitudes and practices toward Disaster Management. The Pashtun ethnic group exhibited more substantial Knowledge and Practice in Disaster Management. The study also found a moderate positive correlation between Knowledge and Practices in Disaster Management. The study also revealed that 67% of the administrative staff at Public Universities in Kabul had a positive view about Managing Disasters at Universities, while 33% had a negative opinion. The study emphasizes the need to address negative views toward Disaster Management among administrative staff at public universities in Kabul. This requires the Development of Disaster Management approaches and Practices at universities, including training and resources to enhance the Knowledge and skills of staff and students. In conclusion, the study highlights the need for Disaster Management Education and Practice in universities, particularly in Disaster-prone nations such as Afghanistan. This will promote student and community safety and preparedness, reduce disaster risks, and improve student Resilience.
