Abstract | In database knowledge the last few years, there has been a great interest in design, where the goal is to combine results from representation schema, software engineering, data semantics, relational theory and physical file design. This study develops a database design support system, called DDSS, for automatic design of relational databases in order to serve as a database designer for end- users or a database designing tool for designers. It uses the frame mod e l to represent user' s data. The frame model serves as a semantic abstraction which has more flexibility and expressive power than a n y other semantic models, e. g, the semantic network or the entity-relationship model. DDSS collects user's information from the user's expected queries expressed in Thai and the frame filling mechanism. Then, it converts data frames to relational models for normalization and implementation using DBASE III as the implementation model. Three design examples are presented in or der to show the effective ness of DDSS. |
